| Visual and Performing Arts
 |
Visual and performing arts are integrated into the curriculum at all grade levels. Lower and Middle School students meet several times a week with the art and music teachers. Classroom teachers also incorporate art projects and music into their lessons. The visual arts program is broad based involving students in as many media as possible, including drawing, coloring, painting, clay, collage, origami, and mask making. Students study contemporary art as well as the masters as they learn a variety of techniques. Often local artists are called on for demonstrations. Upper School art courses are much more in-depth and concentrate on proper use of materials and techniques in various media. Field trips stimulate interest in architecture, art studios, and galleries. In addition to |
traditional studio art classes, including Advanced Placement Art, students can also enroll in Art History and Photography. Students at all grade levels exhibit their work at a spring art show to which the public is invited.
