DATE: 02 May 2007

Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, and Friends of Good Hope,

While I am certain that you are all as busy at home as we are at school, I do hope that each of you will find time to enjoy some of the upcoming activities this May.

  • MS/US Spring Concert - May 10 at 7 p.m.
  • LS Festival of Song and Dance - May 14 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Grandparent's Day - May 14 at 7:30 a.m.
  • Annual Sports Awards Banquet-May 11 at 6 p.m.

We will be sending flyers home with the June schedule. However, please note that on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 4-6, school ends at 1 p.m. each day. Wednesday, June 6 is the last official day of school for all students except for 8th graders, who have their 8th grade Celebration on June 8 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Seniors will graduate on Sunday, June 10 at 5 p.m.

Our teaching assignment update for the 2007-2008 school year is as follows: Sana Hamed-Asad, currently a 3rd grade teacher, will shift to 4th grade; we are staffed for two sections of 4th grade; and are preparing for a second section of 3rd as our enrollment grows.

All faculty members from the 2006-2007 school year were issued contracts for next school year, and all faculty but five individuals have confirmed their annual commitment to Good Hope. Please join me in wishing those five the very best in all their future endeavors and thanking them very much for the tremendous service they have given to our students and community.

  • Margaret Berggren - will be moving to New Mexico to be closer to her grandchildren;
  • Dion Christopher - will be devoting more time to his ministry;
  • Betsy Frimmer - will be moving to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family;
  • Leslie Greene - will be pursuing other passions;
  • Anne Ogg - will be moving to Florida to begin work on her Ph.D. in Education.

Please spread the word that we have five openings to fill and welcome all applicants. Details about the available teaching positions are posted in the employment section of our Web site - www.ghsvi.org.

I am honored to report that Mr. Mitch Cabot from the Dexter School in Brookline , Massachusetts has requested and been invited to teach at GHS during his upcoming year-long sabbatical. In order to help the transition of our students from 5th to 6th grade, Mitch will be teaching 6th grade language arts, social studies, and mathematics.

After one month of running a 4 p.m. van from Leyden Circle to Gallows Bay every afternoon, we have decided to set up morning taxi-van service to any GHS family living over 15 miles from school. We now have over 70 students who would be eligible and with the help of Rashida Daniels, we have a number of excellent taxi drivers who want to help out. While the number and the routes may grow, we will begin with two vans leaving:

  • GHS East End at 7 a.m. - with second pickup at Great Pond Store.
  • Lori's Country Deli at 6:40 a.m. - with a second pickup at Divi Hotel.

All routes will cost $12 week, with payments made to GHS. Students would arrive at school by 7:40 a.m. No routes will go through Christiansted, with all vans crossing over to South Shore Road.

I look forward to seeing you all in the weeks to come. And of course, thank you very much for your continuing support and commitment to The Good Hope School.

Go Falcons!!!!
