Dear Parents and Guardians,

It seems as if every year I make a resolution not to let summer go by too quickly, and once again, summer has flown by. It was just yesterday that the class of 2007 was throwing their caps after graduation, and now summer school is already over with only four weeks remaining until the first day of school. I had the pleasure of joining the St. Croix Hiking Association in their annual "off-island" trip. We had a wonderful trip to the Dominican Republic where many of us were able, perhaps foolish enough, to hike to the top of Pico Duarte. At 10,199 feet, it is the tallest mountain in the Caribbean! Should you like to view pictures of the hike, Click here.
At school, our administrative team and staff have been enthusiastically preparing for our upcoming school year. We were fortunate to have time for an administrative retreat - something there is never time for during the school year. Last year, we took the first step in looking for ways we can strategically use our abundant natural resources. In working toward that goal, we have now begun tracking the carbon dioxide produced by the electricity that we consume and we are working to make our campus a model of energy efficiency and conservation. I am very pleased to announce that the grant we received from the V.I. Department of Energy for five solar security lamps, with turtle friendly bulbs, has been awarded, and the materials have arrived. Installation is scheduled to begin before school starts.
With the numerous successes which highlighted our year becoming known in the St. Croix Community, comes increased interest in The Good Hope School. Enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year is up, resulting in positive growth for the future. Please join me in welcoming our new families! Because of the increased enrollment, we are in need of an additional 3rd grade teacher, as well as teacher-aides for pre-K, 1st, and 2nd grades. Should you know of any qualified persons for these positions, please refer them to Raquel Cedano at rcedano.ghs@gmail.com or 772-0022.
Once again we will be having interns joining our faculty from Salisbury University in Maryland. This year the student teachers will be coming in the fall.
Please note these important dates, also available on the school website:
- Friday, August 24 - Registration for all students - 10 a.m. - 1 p.m..
- Friday, August 24 - Second Annual Back to School Picnic - 6 p.m.
- Monday, August 27 - First day of school - 7:40 a.m. is the start of the day at
The Good Hope School .
I hope that the remainder of your summer is restful and exciting, filled with reading and adventures. In the next few weeks you will receive communication directly from your Division Director as well as introductions to some new faces on our faculty.
Best regards,
Michael Mongeau
