Dear Good Hope School parents and guardians, |
|
The Good Hope School year has rocketed off to a flying start. It is hard to believe that we are rapidly approaching the end of September. Yesterday I enjoyed my first Lower School assembly and strongly recommend that, regardless of your child's age, you do come to see at least one during the year. Soon there will be volleyball matches, first quarter October grades, and the Upper School fall play - The Importance of Being Ernest - begins on November 10, 2005 .
This year The Good Hope School will be creating its first strategic plan. We envision this plan to be the "big picture road map" for where the school, as an intuition, is going to be three years from now. A strategic plan is not a replacement for the school's mission; it is a plan that helps the school to achieve fully its mission. If you are interested in working on the steering committee for the strategic plan, please let me know. The time commitment for a committee member will be one working committee meeting a month, a number of sessions interviewing constituents, and a number of writing/rewriting sessions - from October 2005 - June 2006. We will likely be selecting two parents to be on the steering committee.
I am pleased to announce that Mark Kennedy , The Good Hope School resource teacher, has rescheduled his day in order to be more accessible to students, parents, and faculty. Mr. Kennedy will be creating a Resource Program in Room 203, every day from 2:30-5:30pm . This expanded time period will allow you or your child to see him for recommendations, learning strategies, or extra help. I know that Mark is looking forward to helping every child find the academic success that he or she is seeking.
I am saddened to report that Jim Dingle, our new Middle School social studies teacher, has given me his resignation. In just a few weeks, Mr. Dingle has become a favorite teacher of many Middle School students. Unfortunately, Jim has discovered that there are too many personal issues that force him to return to the mainland. Please join me in wishing him the best of luck, we will miss him. Fortunately, long-time substitute and GHS graduate Ben Keularts is able to stand in for the immediate future. Raquel Boucher, Anne Ogg, and Michael Mongeau have formed a search committee to look for a replacement for the rest of year. Our ideal candidate is living on St. Croix , an experienced educator dedicated to teaching Middle School students, and committed to the mission of The Good Hope School. Please submit any suggestions for a new social studies teacher to one of us on the search committee.
I look forward to seeing you soon and thank you all for the wonderful welcome that you have given to me and my family. I am happy to be part of all the good things that are happening at The Good Hope School.
Sincerely,
Michael Mongeau
