DATE: 01 October 2006
Dear parents and guardians, |
|
Yes, it is already October! We are all thankful for the good, not too stormy, weather and I thank you for a great first six weeks of school. Students and teachers are all reporting that The Good Hope School 2006-2007 year is off to a great start! There is a renewed sense of "Falcon Pride" that is growing each day - Did you know that we set two records, for volunteer turn-out and trash collected, when GHS cleaned the south shore of Sandy Point on September 23?
It has been wonderful to see the strong showing at "Back to School Night" and the first Parents' Organization meeting; next one is on October 12 at 6:30 pm . Do check your calendar, the one on your fridge at home or at www.ghsvi.org , for the upcoming Parent Visiting Days - Lower, Middle, and Upper all happen during the week of October 23.
I am delighted to report that our current enrollment is 258 students. You will be interested to know that from all of last year's students who were eligible to re-enroll, those in Pre-K through 11 th Grade, nearly 90% decided to return to The Good Hope School. And, when you add the 60 new students who have enrolled this year we have a strong foundation for the future.
I am proud to report that we now have five alumnae who are on faculty/staff, two board members who are alumni, and 19 students who are children of alumni. The GHS community is returning to its roots and I believe that with each arrival our future is brighter.
With many thanks to the continuing generosity and insight of Hovensa we have begun a very productive relationship with Dr. Eric Allenbaugh. Before school started 26 faculty/staff participated in a three day workshop, which lead to a very productive week of faculty meetings before school. While I am very grateful for our strong leadership team, we are all excited to see the influence of individual leadership and personal caring that has been stimulated by the Allenbaugh workshop. Good work, good deeds, and good energy have had a tremendous impact on the start of school and are spreading.
We are very fortunate to have scheduled Dr. Allenbaugh for a return visit, when he can work with our entire faculty and staff. Given this possibility there is a change in the first semester calendar.
Parent Conference Day will be on Friday, November 10. There will be no school on Wednesday, November 1 for students; for faculty/staff it is an in-service with Dr. Eric Allenbaugh.
I look forward to seeing each of you in the days to come. Thank you again for your strong support of The Good Hope School.
Warmly,
Michael Mongeau
