The Twenty-First Annual Caribbean Fine Art Exhibit, St. Croix 's most established and prestigious annual gathering of Caribbean artists, will be held during President's Weekend in February 2008. The Exhibit opens on Friday, February 15, 2008 with an art preview, sale, and reception from 7 - 9 p.m. , which is one of the island's highlights.  The show is open on February 16th and 17th from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on February 18th from 10 am - 2pm .  There is no admission fee to view the show on the 16 th - 18 th . Friday night's reception requires a ticket which can be purchased ahead of time for $30 and at the door for $35. Tickets are available at Kicks, Undercover Books, HH Tire, and The Good Hope School.

The Exhibit will feature original artwork as well as prints, note cards, and posters from 68 Caribbean artists.  All artwork is for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefit The Good Hope School Scholarship Fund. The Exhibit features nearly 500 beautiful pieces, ranging from watercolors to oils to photos to sculpture, from which to choose.

St. Johnian woodturner, Avelino Samuel, is the featured artist for the Twenty-First Caribbean Fine Art Exhibit.  The poster art depicts his woodturning artistry and is used to promote the exhibit. The posters are distributed throughout the community and sold as souvenirs for the local population as well as tourists.  The poster art is also used to produce an invitation for the Art Preview and Reception and the exhibit.

The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts through a grant to Good Hope supports the educational outreach program which brings over 250 local school students of all ages to the exhibit on Friday morning before it opens to the public. The grant is managed with extreme care and appreciation and allows the program to provide docents who offer a guided art tour, an experience many students on St. Croix have not had. Their exploration of all aspects of the art, not just the visual, is a transforming occasion. Last year response summaries from students included one who thought: "They really bring good memories of parade, and how we gather for different celebrations." This celebration of self and community is a gift local artists give through their work and the exhibit is the venue to make this a shared experience.

The Caribbean Fine Art Exhibit significantly contributes to the enrichment of the St. Croix community and the artists involved.  It provides an opportunity to embrace the multi-cultural and varied ethnic backgrounds of our island.  After twenty-one successful years, The Good Hope School Committee on Arts has earned a reputation for producing a professional, quality show which benefits everyone.
