The Good Hope School attended Eco-Fair today as part of their April Environmental Education. Good Hope 3rd, 4th, and 6th Grades attended the St. Croix Environmental Association's annual Eco-Fair at St. Georges Botanical Gardens . The Good Hope 5th Grade will attend the fair on Friday. Numerous government agencies and other constituents with important roles in protecting our environment displayed and provided interactive booths for elementary and middle school St. Croix students free of charge.

As Earth Day falls in April, this month's Character Education value for Good Hope's Lower and Middle Schools is Environmental Awareness. Environmental Education is a priority in the curriculum at Good Hope throughout the school year, but April is a significant time as the students are able to partake in activities other organizations are hosting, stressing the importance of environmental stewardship.

The booths at Eco-Fair ranged from recycling to protecting our coral reefs. The students were able to see scaled down models of both a landfill and wastewater treatment plant at the VI Waste Management Authority's Booth. Department of Planning and Natural Resources brought many activities including a booth where the students were amazed to see items confiscated from our airport as visitors attempted to take sand and shells from the beaches on St. Croix.

The Good Hope students are involved in many activities to celebrate environmental awareness including the Third Grade tree planting ceremony on Friday at Good Hope's campus. Later this month Good Hope is hosting a meeting of local experts on energy usage in an initiative the school is calling Cool Schools where Good Hope will be a pilot school to benchmark and eventually take steps at reducing CO2 output.
