Within the Good Hope community there is an enduring respect for the differences reflected in our multicultural environment. From September 15 th to October 15 th, The Good Hope School will be implementing a variety of student activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

A school-wide poster contest is being held. This year's theme is "The Many Faces of Hispanic Culture". Students will create original art focusing on concepts such as: the ethnic diversity of Hispanic Americans; scenes from literature and art; Afro and indigenous influences; or folklore and religion. The competition is divided by age group: Upper School, Middle School and Lower School . Entries will be submitted by October 12 th.

A school-wide assembly will be held on Monday, October 18th. The program will consist of dance, poetry readings, and skits all performed by GHS students

On Friday, October 22nd, an Hispanic buffet will be served to the entire student body by the students in the Spanish language classes. As part of the project, these students will research traditional Hispanic meals and translate the recipes before preparing each dish.

Some of the favorite foods represented will be: paella, enchiladas, burritos, arroz con pollo, baccalao, albondigas, tostones, and flan.

Within the Spanish language classes, students will be focusing on Hispanic Heritage month in a number of ways. Assignments will include reading about Hispanic history, memorizing and reciting poetry, and writing biographies of important figures in Hispanic history. Hispanic Heritage Month is also integrated into the curriculum of many other courses on campus.

GHS students will also be learning Latin dance in activity periods during the month; the workshops will feature Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Folkloric Dance.

The Good Hope School invites members of our community to join us this month in celebration of one of the most diverse and rich cultures in our community.
